The American College of Surgeons (ACS) on January 20 notified members that it had received a letter from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) saying new moderate sedation codes that took effect January 1 were incorrectly bundled into several surgical procedures codes in CMS payment software.
This is of concern to surgeons because, as of January 1, those who perform moderate sedation in conjunction with a procedure were required to report new moderate sedation CPT codes in addition to the procedure code.
CMS says it will correct the errors in the April 1 version of the software.
