The Leapfrog Group has announced its 2024 Top Hospital and Top Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Award recipients December 17, honoring facilities for standout performance in patient safety and care quality. This year, the national employer watchdog organization named 134 hospitals and 31 ASCs as winners of the national awards.
According to the announcement, the awards are based on rigorous performance metrics such as infection prevention, surgical safety, maternity care, ethical billing practices, and informed patient consent. The criteria are derived from Leapfrog’s annual surveys, promoting transparency and quality improvement in healthcare.
Leapfrog granted The Top Hospital Award to less than 6% of eligible organizations. Recipients are categorized into four groups: eight Top Children’s Hospitals, 36 Top General Hospitals, 15 Top Rural Hospitals, and 75 Top Teaching Hospitals. The Top ASC Award spanned nine surgical specialties, including gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, and urology.
Although the organization expects to tighten standards for billing ethics and informed consent for 2025, methodology for the 2025 awards will remain largely consistent otherwise.
