The 123-page bill, called the “American Health Care Act,” was released March 6, Modern Healthcare reports.
The bill replaces the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA’s) income-based premium tax credits with age-based tax credits. It also enhances federal funding for states to expand Medicaid to low-income adults, and it converts Medicaid from an open-ended entitlement to a program of capped, per-capita payment to the states.
Other changes include the repeal of the ACA’s requirement to buy health insurance, and the bill offers states $100 billion to establish high-risk pools.
The bill went to two committees for markup on March 7.
Under pressure from their right flank, House Republicans have released a bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act that ditches their previous proposal to tax high-value employer health plans. The 123-page bill, called the American Health Care Act, was released Monday night.
