Editor's Note
Filling out OR Manager’s Career/Salary Survey may take only 15 minutes, but perioperative leaders are busy people. Recognizing that even small blocks of time may be hard to find, we’ve extended the deadline through June 27. We wouldn’t want anyone to miss a chance to help forecast what’s ahead and illuminate the challenges and trends shaping today’s medical facilities.
The more data we collect, the more valuable the end result will be. For evidence of that, consider a few prominent insights from last year’s survey:
- Leaders of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), which continue to be a growth area in healthcare, reported greater satisfaction with their jobs/positions than previous years even though salary and other compensation remain stable, with 72% of respondents earning a salary of $100,000 or more compared with 77% in 2023. More than half of ASC leaders reported an increase in their annual operating budget.
- Staffing remains a challenge for ASCs, particularly hiring managers. In fact, the percentage of ASC leaders reporting hiring more management as a staffing challenge reached the highest percentage in 9 years of surveys.
- Although staffing challenges are not limited to ASCs, widening the view to the entirety of perioperative services paints a slightly rosier picture, with respondents reporting some improvement in recruiting, turnover, and other parameters.
- OR leaders are supervising more full-time equivalent employees and managing more ORs than last year, although financial compensation has improved only slightly despite the increased responsibility.
In addition to direct coverage of the survey, we use the data to inform our editorial direction throughout the year. Participants also have more to gain than the “warm fuzzies” that come with contributing to perioperative education. Anyone who's already completed it has had their name entered in a raffle for $100 Amazon Gift Cards and passes to attend the OR Manager Conference in October.
