Editor's Note
This study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finds that 30% of healthcare workers (HCWs) in 2,086 US hospitals remained unvaccinated against COVID-19 as of September 15.
Analyzing data on more than 3.3 million HCWs, the researchers found that vaccination rates climbed from 36% to 60% between January and April, but then slowed, reaching 70% as of September.
HCW vaccination rates were highest in children’s hospitals (77%) and short-term acute care hospitals (70.1%). Rates also were highest among HCWs in metropolitan counties (71%), compared with rural counties (65.1%) and nonmetropolitan urban counties (63.3%).
Additional efforts are needed to improve vaccine coverage among HCWs, the researchers say.
