Editor's Note
According to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report, titled “Seroprevalence of Infection-Induced SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies — United States, September 2021–February 2022” and published on April 26, almost 60% of people living in the US, including 75% of children and adolescents, has contracted COVID-19, Becker’s Hospital Review April 27 reports.
The CDC analyzed antibody levels from blood samples collected between September 2021 and February 2022 and found that antibody presence driven by the Omicron variant jumped from 33.5% in December 2021 to 57.7% in February 2022.
“The CDC noted that convenience sampling might limit the research's generalizability,” Becker’s noted, and that the “figures may also be an underestimate, as COVID-19 infections after vaccination might result in lower antibody levels, and antibody testing cannot discern between new infections and reinfections.”
