CDC revises mask guidelines for fully vaccinated people

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), on April 27, announced new interim public health recommendations on activities fully vaccinated people can resume with and without wearing a mask.

Among the recommendations:

  • Fully vaccinated people can attend small gatherings outdoors with other vaccinated people or a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated people without wearing a mask.
  • Fully vaccinated people can attend large outdoor gatherings, such as sporting events, concerts, and parades, if they wear masks.
  • Fully vaccinated people should continue to wear masks indoors with unvaccinated people and outdoors in public spaces.
  • Fully vaccinated people can walk, run, hike, or bike outdoors alone or with members of their household without wearing a mask.
  • Fully vaccinated people can dine at outdoor restaurants with people from multiple households without wearing a mask.

This guidance applies to people who are fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccines currently authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen, and AstraZeneca/Oxford.
