The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 requires that physicians be measured on their meaningful use of electronic health record (EHR) technology for purposes of determining their Medicare payments.
EHR incentive programs were designed to encourage the adoption of new technology and measure the benefits for patients. Instead, they have created concerns about placing too much of a burden on physicians and pulling their time away from caring for patients, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reports.
CMS says it has listened to physician and consumer concerns and will be rolling out new EHR regulations this spring and inviting comment.
