Connecticut ASCs, car washes seek tax relief

Ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and car wash owners urged Connecticut lawmakers to roll back taxes they imposed last year to help balance the state’s budget, the March 9 The Republic reports.

Owners say the taxes are a burden and predict establishments that operate on slim margins will close. An ophthalmologist who owns a surgery center told lawmakers he can’t afford to buy new equipment or grow his business because he has to adsorb the new 6% gross receipts tax on ASCs.

It is questionable whether legislatures will agree to roll back the tax increases, however, because the state still faces serious budget problems.

 

HARTFORD, Connecticut - Connecticut lawmakers were urged Wednesday to roll back taxes they imposed last year on ambulatory surgical care centers and car washes to help balance the state's budget. Business owners said they're suffering from the taxes and predicted establishments that operate on slim margins will close.
