Faculty-student relationships, communication key to developing nurse leaders

Nurse faculty members have the power to shape their students’ knowledge and understanding of what a nurse leader is through their attitude and demeanor toward the role.

Experiencing a nurturing relationship with faculty members is invaluable in helping students become good nurses and leaders, and it affects their ability to function legally and ethically, the author notes.

 

Recently, the nursing profession has emphasized the role of the nurse as leader. It is critical to keep in mind, however, that leadership is not a new role for nurses. Nurses have undertaken this obligation and duty for many years.
