Healthcare employment in the US rose by 56,000 from April to May, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released on May 3. That is compared to an overall monthly gain of 175,000 in April.

At 3.9 percent, the overall unemployment rate stayed within the same narrow, 3.7-3.9% range maintained since August 2023. The number of unemployed people—6.5 million—also changed little in April, according to a May 3 Bureau of Labor Statistics news release.
