Healthcare employment up in February

Healthcare employment in the US rose by 90,700 from February to March, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released on March 8. That is compared to an overall monthly gain of 275,000 in February.

In February, healthcare employment trended up also in:

• ambulatory healthcare services rose by 28,000
• hospital employment rose by 27,700
• nursing and residential care facilities rose by 11,000.

The overall unemployment rate rose slightly to end at 3.9% for the month, "and the number of unemployed people increased by 334,000 to 6.5 million," according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics news release also released on March 8.
