Healthcare employment up in March

Healthcare employment in the US rose by 72,000 from March to April, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released on April 5. That is compared to an overall monthly gain of 231,000 in March.

In March, healthcare employment also trended up in:

• ambulatory healthcare services rose by 28,000
• hospital employment rose by 27,000
• nursing and residential care facilities rose by 18,000

At 3.8%, the overall unemployment rate stayed within the same narrow, 3.7-3.9% range maintained since August 2023. The number of unemployed people—6.4 million—also changed little in March, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics news release also published April 5.
