Healthgrades names best hospitals for patient outcomes

Editor's Note

Healthgrades has announced its 2025 America's Best Hospitals Awards, recognizing the top 50, 100, and 250 hospitals in the U.S. for overall clinical performance.

According to a January 28 announcement, the rankings are based on an analysis of approximately 4,500 hospitals, evaluating outcomes for more than 30 common procedures and conditions.

Healthgrades’ methodology focuses on patient outcomes to help consumers make informed decisions about their care. According to its analysis, if all hospitals performed at the level of the 250 Best Hospitals, an estimated 174,081 lives could have been saved. The findings highlight a persistent performance gap between top-ranked hospitals and lower-performing facilities.

Despite the growing influence of hospital quality ratings in patient decision-making, access to top-performing hospitals remains a challenge. According to the announcement, nearly half of Americans live more than 25 miles from one of the 250 Best Hospitals, and 15 states lack a hospital ranked in the top 5%. This disparity affects approximately 37 million people, particularly in rural areas and some major metropolitan regions.
