A June 6 meeting on gun violence prevention at the White House attracted more than 80 top health care executives to lend expertise on mental health, gunshot wounds, and more, Becker’s Hospital Review reports.
Hosted by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, established in 2023, the meeting occurred on the eve of the 10th annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
Citing a report in the Washington Post, the article highlights the value of improved data collection from emergency departments treating gunshot injuries, pointing out that emergency department visits for firearm injuries among children surged throughout the pandemic.
Mental health was also a key focus, Becker's reports, quoting a CEO who points out that suicides make up most gun deaths and continue to increase every year.
