Lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic will close out the OR Business Management Conference on Wednesday, leaving attendees with ideas for managing the disruptions experienced since the start of 2020.

Implementing a virtual communication platform to get surgeons’ feedback on instruments helped leaders at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital reduce instrumentation. In their session at 10:15 am, “Pandemic’s ‘New Normal’ Paves Way for Reducing Instrumentation,” Erin Kini, MSN, RN, CNOR, and Steve Kucinksi will share their process and tools that can be adapted for use in other facilities.

Although standardization has long been recognized as a way to streamline and reduce costs, the pandemic has made it an imperative strategy for offsetting losses that have occurred. The key to success is better collaboration between OR and supply chain staff, as DeAnne Short, director of clinical quality value analysis and clinical sourcing at Premier Health, will explain in her 10:15 am presentation, “How Has the COVID-19 Pandemic Shaped the Future of the OR Supply Chain?”
