Editor's Note

The Joint Commission and National Quality Forum (NQF) announced on September 3 they are now accepting applications for the 2024 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards. The application window is open until October 29, 2024.

The annual awards, which recognize major achievements by individuals and organizations that use innovative approaches to improve patient safety and healthcare quality, are presented in three categories:

  • National Level Innovation
  • Local Level Innovation
  • Individual Achievement.

The Eisenberg Awards honor projects that have demonstrated significant impact in improving patient care and safety. National and local level awards require at least 12 months of data showing measurable improvements. The awards program also acknowledges individuals who have shown exceptional leadership in advancing healthcare quality.

This year marks the first time the entire awards cycle will be conducted under the collaboration between The Joint Commission and NQF, which aims to streamline quality measurement and enhance healthcare outcomes. The 2023 awards recognized achievements by the Veterans Health Administration, BMC2, and Dr Eduardo Salas of Rice University.

Applications are free and can be submitted through The Joint Commission and NQF websites.
