Karlene Power to receive Best in OR Business Award

The Best in OR Business Award will be presented on Thursday, February 1, at the 2018 OR Business Management Conference to Karlene Power, MSN, BSN, RN, system executive director, perioperative service line, at Banner Health in Phoenix.
The award recognizes an individual who makes complex logistical decisions, meets scheduling demands, thinks strategically, and focuses on the bottom line. Power was selected from among several nominees for her achievements in patient safety, cost reductions, and staff satisfaction.
“Being a leader for more than 40 years has helped me develop as a transformational leader who is acknowledged and respected at all levels within the organization,” Power said.
In addition to receiving the Best in OR Business Award, Power has been awarded two “Best of the Best” Leadership awards at Banner for a 60% improvement in patient safety and a 27% volume growth. These milestones were achieved along with cost decreases and changes that improved operational performance.
