Louisiana Department of Health asks military for 6,000 nurses

The Louisiana Department of Health has requested 6,000 military nurses to help handle increasing patient volumes in the state because of the surge in COVID-19 cases, the August 17 k945.com reports.

The report also notes that:

  • 95% of all COVID-19 cases in Louisiana are due to the Delta variant
  • there are 106 new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents per day
  • the number of Louisiana residents hospitalized with COVID-19 was 2,956 as of August 17.

The hope is that bringing in additional nurses can help alleviate shortages and burnout, the report says.
