A study by Adventist University of Health Sciences (Orlando, Florida) found that 92% of nurses were dissatisfied with their electronic health record (EHR) technology.
In addition, 85% said the EHRs had flaws, and 84% said EHRs disrupted their productivity and clinical workflow.
The researchers also found an increase in nursing staff turnover toward the end of the study, though staffing remained stable immediately following EHR implementation.
Most nursing students dream of working in hospitals, saving lives. While there's great need for primary care nurses, a cause of the current US nursing shortage is lack of faculty in nursing schools. Tens of thousands of qualified students get turned away each year, exacerbating the problem of too few nurses.
