National Time Out Day on June 14 renews attention on the surgical team to prevent wrong-site surgery by pausing before a surgical procedure begins to make sure it is the right site, right procedure, and right person, a June 7 joint statement by The Joint Commission and AORN says.
In the statement, the two organizations focus on the full attention of all team members during the Time Out, and they stress the importance of meaningful, accurate, and visible site markings.
The Joint Commission addresses the Time Out in its Universal Protocol for Preventing Wrong Site, Wrong Procedure, and Wrong Person Surgery.
