Experienced OR leaders tapped into a deep knowledge base to equip new managers with critical thinking skills during several bootcamps on September 21.
Two of the four sessions focused on human resources management, arguably the hardest part of any OR manager’s job. Amy Bethel, MPA, RN, NE-BC, from Unity Point Health in Des Moines, and Beth Bozzelli, MBA, RN, from Hospital Corporation of America, discussed the impact of the peer-to-leader transition and how to engage the staff to create a positive, productive work environment.
Lisa Lynn Counts, MBA, BSN, RN, CNOR, from the University of Kentucky, and Mary H. Diamond, MBA, RN, CNOR, PMP, from TriCity Medical Center, tackled the disciplinary and legal actions that may be needed to manage difficult employees.
In two other sessions, these same leaders teamed up to walk attendees through the budgeting process and supply chain management. They provided tools for determining staffing patterns, understanding variance and productivity reporting, and mastering preference cards and inventory.
