According to the New York Times, which collected data from the US Department of Health and Human Services, COVID-19 cases have decreased nationwide in the last 2 weeks, Becker’s Hospital Review March 24 reports. However, the same data set shows that the number of COVID-19 cases have actually been increasing in nine states.

The latest variant, the “more contagious” Omicron subvariant BA.2, “accounts for more than one-third of COVID-19 cases nationwide and more than half of cases in the Northeast,” Becker’s highlights according to proportion estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Arkansas leads the list, having seen the largest jump in cases (31%). Two other states saw increases of more than 20%: New York (26%) and Connecticut (24%). The other states on the list of nine states seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases are Texas, Rhode Island, Kentucky, Vermont, Colorado, and Massachusetts.
