Editor's Note
Ed Krow, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CCP, talent transformation expert, will be challenging OR Business Management Conference attendees today at 8 am PST on their leadership skills. In his keynote address, “Leadership Gold—How To Be a Leader Worth Following,” Krow will ask how well managers are leading their teams in the face of increased competition, pressure to perform, and decreased profit margins. The presentation will arm attendees with strategies they need to help their teams succeed, and urge them to understand why people quit people, not companies.
At 3 pm PST, Ignacia Joyner, BSN, RN, CNOR, and Dineta Haughton, RN, CNOR, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s surgical quality manager and OR education coordinator, respectively, will cover ways to support perioperative nurses through education to optimize their performance, during their presentation, “Tracking Orientation, Competencies, and Nursing Skill Sets.” This requires a balancing act, as leaders need to account for the skills of both novice and experienced RNs. However, just having the resources in place is not enough; comprehensive and accessible electronic documentation is essential to maintain staff compliance for annual education and accreditation audits.
A successful leader needs intelligence, strategy, and expertise. The OR Business Management Conference is the perfect venue for OR managers to share their leadership experience—the do’s and don’t’s—and be exposed to critical information to better form and develop their teams.
