The House Appropriations Committee has approved a draft budget for fiscal 2016 that would terminate funding for HHS' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The proposal would also cut funding for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
Just last week, AHRQ announced plans to fund three Centers of Excellence to study how high-performing healthcare systems promote evidence-based practices in delivering care. However, effective Oct. 1, 2015, the agency would be eliminated outright if this bill were to pass.
"The funding in this bill is targeted to programs that are proven to produce results," House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers said in a statement.
