Editor's Note
In this study, researchers at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, found that physicians and patients alike are dissatisfied with the use of electronic health records (EHRs).
Researchers surveyed patients, physicians, mid-level providers, and nonclinical staff at two OB-GYN practices and a regional hospital from 2009 to 2013 during implementation of an EHR system and its integration with the hospital system.
Physicians were less satisfied with EHRs overall, saying they decreased productivity and changed workflow because of the time needed to input data.
Patients said they were unsatisfied with EHRs because of the disruptions they caused, which altered their perception of their care experience.
