Citing research from Dolman Law Group, a March 11 article in Becker’s ASC Review notes that surgeons have the second-most stressful job of any profession in the US. Anesthesiology was third most stressful, while paramedic was fourth. Steelworker topped the list.
The Dolman Law Group research examined data including compensation, average work hours, unemployment rate, and the percentage of people changing jobs after the first two years, the Becker’s report notes. Based on that data as well as unique stress factors, the personal injury firm ranked each profession on a 10-point scale.
According to a related report in Recycling Today, the firm conducted research on 10 different occupations. Its explanation for the high score for steelworkers, which “reflects the high physical demand of the occupation, work hazards and long shifts,” also applies to surgeons.
