The Joint Commission, on September 15, announced that the deadline to participate in the Institute for Safe Medication Practices’ (ISMP) Medication Safety Self Assessment for Perioperative Settings has been extended to December 10.
The self-assessment helps those in perioperative settings see how well their organizations’ systems and practices are doing in protecting patients from medication errors, The Joint Commission says.
The tool also provides a way for hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and other surgery sites to document compliance with requirements for risk assessment and performance improvement, for example, in The Joint Commission’s Leadership (LD) standard LD.04.04.05.
