The Joint Commission announced May 3 that applications are now being accepted for the second annual Bernard J. Tyson National Award for Excellence in Pursuit of Healthcare Equity.
This award, created by The Joint Commission and Kaiser Permanente, recognizes advancements in reducing healthcare disparities in the name of Bernard J. Tyson, the late CEO and chair of Kaiser Permanente. Tyson “worked tirelessly to address the healthcare disparities that plague the US healthcare system,” the announcement says.
Last year, UMass Memorial Health won the award in recognition of its work to improve healthcare for young patients in vulnerable communities, especially during COVID-19 when children were falling behind in routine vaccinations and preventive care.
Applications will be accepted through June 30.
