Editor's Note

Although much of the OR Business Management Conference focuses on sound financial management and performance improvement, this year’s program features topics that are somewhat tangential—but nonetheless important—for excelling at business management.

Based on feedback from past attendees, we offer these perspectives on safe surgical patient care:

  • how to reduce perioperative pressure injuries (Tuesday, 9 am)
  • the benefits of eliminating tray errors (Wednesday, 9 am)
  • transitioning from high-level disinfection to sterilization (Wednesday, 12:45 pm)
  • how to improve quality measures and diagnostics (Wednesday, 2 pm)
  • understanding quality, safety, and the patient experience (Wednesday, 4:45 pm)
  • using a patient-friendly scheduling system to improve efficiency and the patient experience (Wednesday, 4:45 pm)
  • leveraging understanding of social styles to build effective teams (Thursday, 9 am)
  • ensuring safe sterilization in the wake of an emergency (Thursday, 10:15 am).
