A bill that would repeal the medical device tax cleared the House of Representatives on July 24 in a 283-132 vote. the July 24 The Hill reports. The tax provided part of the funding for the Affordable Care Act.
Rep Erik Paulsen (R-Minn), the bill sponsor, says the bill would reverse a harmful tax that is hurting job growth and innovation.
Rep Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) noted that the bill was devised so the Affordable Care Act would be paid for and not add to the deficit.
AdvaMed CEO Scott Whitaker urged the Senate to quickly take up the measure and eliminate the tax’s drag on hopes for better patient care and economic growth.
