Editor's Note
US News & World Report, recognized globally as an authority in healthcare rankings and consumer advice, announced in November 2023 the addition of Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers to its annual series of ratings that evaluate healthcare sites.
This new category comes in response to the growing prevalence of same-day surgical procedures, which now account for more than half of all surgeries performed in the US. Patients needing procedures such as knee replacements, colonoscopies, and other specialized surgical services will soon have access to critical data to help select the best ambulatory surgery center (ASC) for their healthcare needs, noted the November 28 PRNewswire press release.
The inaugural report is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2024. The Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers rating system will complement US News' array of health rankings and ratings, including include Best Hospitals, Best Children's Hospitals, Best Senior Living, Best Nursing Homes, Best OTC Medicine & Health Products, and Best Diets. The methodology behind this new category will include a range of metrics to generate a composite rating across various key specialties, including orthopedics and spine, gastroenterology, urology, and ophthalmology. US News is partnering with healthcare analytics firm CareJourney to gain access into the necessary information for these ratings.
